June 16, 2012-the maharaja paranoia

Been quite paranoid about getting to this much anticipated holiday.... Especially after the bad week that went by... Arrived at the airport some 5 hours before departure (3 hours is advised by airlines) just because we were travelling on the maharaja airlines...these guys in two instances last heard had overbooked flights and told passengers who had a valid web check in to take the next flight ( no am not faffing); in another instance, they sent the check in baggages two full days of reaching a destination ... Fingers crossed I don't have to go through ( writing this at the airport before the flight).... But coming to the point, really looking forward to a 15 day break without too much worry about the job...

The worst advisers

Last week has been particularly maddening and in a way depressing to see that so many people lost their jobs and the decision to do the same was done in such a whimsical fashion across companies. At most places, the people with the lowest cost have been let go - what purpose does it really serve... Some non productive top floor occupiers keep their position safe...and all this is done by the companies who advise or recommend these companies and/ or their shareholders - maybe they should first mind their own business ....

31 may 2012

This is not a diary that am writing ( if one is to go by the topic am writing on ).... Just was confused as to what I would write about despite numerous topics I have been thinking of writing on..... 1) firstly let me dwell on the recent topic - today's Bharat bandh to protest against the hike in petrol prices....while its tempting to write on the macro part ( the little that I understand of it), I was taken by the very simple observation made by one of the cabbies today - would petrol prices really come down due to this move, he thought it was just a political sham....instead of any reversals, he interestingly said, we got inflation for that one particular day - all to lead a normal daily life. 2) my recent trip to Singapore was hectic , but still something that I enjoyed in some way ( may be I really do enjoy my current job ). Got to meet some bright people from different nationalities - that's possibly the beauty of this small but vibrant city. have little natural resource other than the seafront but they seem to have a visionary leadership. Sometimes think if it's possible to do something in a big country such as India. Find of this trip from there this time was something called bengawan solo cookie - they are good but reminded me more of the butter biscuits of childhood days in salem. 3) I was for a change proud of controlling my anger during the flight back from Singapore to mumbai. The flight attendant first said, there were a lot of veg meal requests , so they had brought only limited egg preparation. Later when the time for meals came I was told , there was no roti ( the main bread for the dinner )! Now they told me people ate off quite a lot...just laughed it off though i was angry. But the chief attendant later came and apologised profusely ( she had remembered me from the trip to Singapore and greeted me when I entered the aircraft ). Don't recall her name but was happy to see that at least she was genuine about the issue. Well seems I am ranting a lot .... Would pause it for tomorrow I guess. Wanted to write about the little that I saw of 'the girl with the dragon tattoo'. it was impressive and had a good plot. ( sad it can't release in India)

Satya meva jayate

Well been wanting to write for a while. But never found the urge to do it. Thought I need to write more often and making an attempt at it. (My first blog from the iPad as well). coming to the topic, this new show by Aamir khan is worth a watch, despite some of its commercial angles ( but that's needed to get the message across and keep the show running I guess). Good topics, well researched by his team and covering almost all angles. The episodes thus far on female foeticide, paedophilia, dowry and abuse of the medical profession were well covered. Kudos to the courage that these victims have shown to express themselves on national television. But as I keep watching one episode after another, I somehow get the feeling that the anchor possibly needs to give the affected parties a chance to express themselves when they are on the show - today somehow thought that the current chief of medical council of india was not allowed to express himself freely during the show. He was posed questions and when he started replying, he first accepted the issues at hand, but somehow seemed wanting to give better clarity on why they are so, which the anchor kinda cut short. Don't know if it was intended or not but definitely came across that way. That's the possibly one issue I have with this show. But hope this does bring about the change the right way. Hope it does not aggravate the issues at hand.
